If you are new to Pilates, or to Pilates equipment, you will need to attend our Pilates West 1st Assessment.

(Buy a single 1st Assessment in the Private Session Area -or- the Get Started Pack)

Private sessions are ideal for learning the Pilates method with individualized instruction tailored to your needs. Whether you're recovering from an injury, seeking to improve your strength and balance, or looking to advance your practice beyond what is taught in classes, we can help. We also offer Pilates for pregnancy and postpartum.

Pilates West is a dedicated space designed to teach all aspects of the Pilates method. The picture shows the Tower, also known as the half trapeze table, created by Joseph Pilates to help patients unable to perform Pilates mat exercises. Individuals could build up their strength with the support of springs, either assisting or resisting. This important discovery eventually led to the creation of beautiful Pilates equipment that we use here at Pilates West.

1ST ASSESSMENT

You would buy and schedule a 1st Assessment if you have never taken Pilates on equipment or have never been to Pilates West.

If you have never taken Pilates on equipment or have never visited Pilates West before, we recommend that you purchase and schedule a 1st Assessment. This is because understanding your goals, and individual needs, and gathering information about you, such as previous injuries or if you are rehabilitating, is essential for ensuring that you have the best experience at Pilates West. We are unique in that we offer state-of-the-art Pilates equipment in a class format, and we want to make sure that you can use it safely and effectively. After attending a 1st Assessment, you will find it much easier to join a class session.

  • WHAT IS PILATES?

Pilates is an exercise method created by Joseph Pilates. The initial exercises he developed were performed on a mat. Pilates drew inspiration from his personal experiences in various physical activities, such as gymnastics, diving, martial arts, weightlifting, bodybuilding, circus performing, and boxing to create a series of exercises.

  • WHAT CAN PILATES DO FOR ME?

By performing various exercises, one can achieve greater symmetry and balance while also strengthening and stretching their muscles. Additionally, the focus on breath and control during movement makes it a great way to improve overall physical control and awareness.

  • WHAT ARE THESE "SPRINGS" ABOUT?

Pilates developed the apparatus/equipment, using spring resistance. Reducing spring loads in some cases makes it both easier for participants to move by taking the load off of the joints and helps to increase range of motion, but also increases control and balance. Adding springs to increase resistance helps the body become stronger and balanced.

  • THE NAME

Joseph Pilates actually named his method Contrology, but after his passing away in 1967, the method became known as Pilates.

from Sarah:

“I really enjoy the studio and my classes. I love the challenge they afford me and the personalized attention I receive.”

from Rebecca:

“Attended for my first assessment to see if Pilates was something I was interested in and Eva was amazing! She explained the machines and moves really well, and made me feel comfortable as I learned. Can’t wait to book my next session!”

FAQs

  • Wear comfortable, easy to move in workout clothing, such as yoga pants or jogging pants. If you prefer to wear shorts, please wear tight shorts underneath. *Please avoid clothing with zippers on the back (i.e. running pants/shorts with back zippers)

  • Anyone is welcome to join any class on the schedule. We find it beneficial for beginners to watch more advanced classmates AND it is always a good idea for a more advanced Pilates student to revisit basic Pilates exercises. If you have injuries or require modification, please let the instructor know before class.

  • Pilates West takes all major credit cards: Visa, Mastercard, AMEX, and Discover. We also take cash.

  • Members of a family can share any membership at Pilates West - how awesome is that? (a membership is for classes, it automatically renews every month)

  • You can Drop-In at Pilates West if you are familiar with Pilates. This means that you have been taking Pilates for several months at another studio and understand how to use the equipment - for safety and to keep up during class. Otherwise, you want to do a 1st Assessment.

You choose which class you want to attend, then you get the option to pay for a Drop-In at $40.
